The Paradise Garage made such an impact on Nightclub and Rave Culture in the eighties that today it can still stage a street party with 3 of it’s original DJs and draw 22,000 people. The party was a rally for New Yorkers who insist that King Street be renamed Larry Levan Way. Red Bull put a full marketing thrust with painted posters covering the whole sides of many buildings in New York of Larry Levan. It also did live streaming of the event worldwide. Institutions like Red Bull and Ultra Fest are realizing that they can freshen up the scene by sparking interest about the personalities and places this great Dance and Rave culture came from. New Discos are popping up all over with young crowds who want to recreate the fun they hear about in the early days of Disco and House Music. Many know that Larry Levan is the greatest deejay of that time and his reign on King Street was never challenged in that 13 years. After The Garage closed in 1987 there was an underground club on a smaller scale that was cherished by the same crowd. It was The Choice and it featured Joey Llanos a Garage deejay and Richard Vasquez... the joint partners in the venue. That club featured residents like Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Louie Vega and Larry Levan long before anyone had heard of them. Levan pitched in to supervise the design and maintenance of its sound system. It was known for a sound system that was second to none except The Garage. Grand Central is launching The Choice Miami featuring Joey and Richard with a monthly party to give Miami the kind of dance party it has never seen before. Grand Central has taken Miami by surprise with the Success of it's Roller Disco Party. It features the kind of music that was featured at the Garage… that is Funky Disco music. The Choice Miami will give us that true golden age of the eighties. It will feature some of the greatest deejays of that time as well as locals who can successfully create the “ journey” experience with dance music. It is a technique that takes you from one place to another smoothly… instead of leaving you with one vibe for the whole evening. It makes eclecticism in music the key to it being an all night thing and often an early morning thing. The Choice was the leader in combining Disco and Funk with House Music and Acid Jazz. Dance music that is ultimately musical. We are making a place for people who dare to let themselves go and have a real good time dancing. The Dancers will be the V.I.P.s of the club. Its fun people will be the celebrities. We are asking Miami to help make this happen the way it used to be.
